Michelle is amazing. She is super organized and efficient, in addition to being a creative wizard and genuinely kind. She listens to what you want, as opposed to pushing a particular design on you. Very quick to respond, as well, which is helpful to those anxiety-ridden 2-weeks-to-go-in-states-of-panic brides :) I had a general idea of what I wanted, but needed her help to fine-tune my vision and bring it to life. She made idea boards for me to review, gave suggestions and feedback when asked and took care of all the annoying details like negotiating with vendors , sourcing items, renting, buying and returning. She also was also on call to help me make random decisions that she honestly did not have to help with. But she did, bc she is that cool. Finally, Michelle and her staff also set up the entire venue - first the ceremony, then they flipped it for the reception (seamlessly while we enjoyed cocktail hour) and broke down end of the night. My guests kept complimenting me on how amazing the venue looked, so I have to give major props to Michelle!

Describe your business in 1-3 short sentences.

I am an event designer and florist that specializes in quirky-whimsical weddings for couples who want to throw conventionality out the window. Based in Brooklyn, NY, my design aesthetic is known for using interesting materials, big flowing floral arrangements, lots of color, and geometrics. The couples we work with want a wedding that has traditional aspects while making the design of the decor completely their own.

Why do you want to work with APW Couples?

Ever since planning my own wedding in 2009, APW has been my go-to source for real, authentic, and sane perspectives. APW couples are down-to-earth. They realize that a wedding is about the creation of a new family FIRST, with all the Fun Sparkles SECOND. Which, APW couples know, doesn’t mean that the Fun Sparkles can’t be amazing and fun and colorful and important. They want weddings that are authentically them, that speak to who they are as a couple and as individuals. My favorite thing about APW couples? They support each other and aren't judgey about each other's weddings. Oh, and word on the street is that they are pretty good dancers.

Describe your artistic approach to weddings?

My artistic approach to weddings starts with getting to know you and your soon-to-be spouse. I love to learn about special experiences you had together, that amazing trip you’ve taken, how you drink coffee and she/he drinks tea, that you’d rather chill on the couch than go out to a bar, and most important, how you want your wedding to feel. I take all those little details and combine them into designs, decorations, and florals that scream YOU. I want your wedding to feel personal, to be 100% UNcookie cutter, to be creative, and to feel like a big, fun party celebrating your love for each other. It’s such a huge honor to create the unique decorations that will make you smile on your wedding day.
I run a full service design studio, which means that we will design every aesthetic piece of your wedding: from the invitations to the florals to the rentals, we will be there every step of the way to art direct the celebration you are throwing.

I believe that decorations and flowers are important simply because they make you happy when you look at them. That the money spent on the impermanent parts of your wedding are worth the emotions they elicit from your family and friends as they experience a fully designed event in person.

What are your non-work-related hobbies?

Binge watching TV shows with my husband, playing with my three year old, eating too much candy, and hitting weight lifting records at Crossfit.

What’s your favorite movie?

I must really like you guys to even admit what my favorite movies are. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days is high up on the list. So is Armageddon. Bridesmaids was hilarious. Anything set in the future and kind of techy gets an A+ too.

If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?

My Humps, by The Black Eyed Peas
