The Hendrys

These two are artists. We could not be happier with how our photos turned out. Its so amazing to see yourself and your memories of this great day through such a beautiful lens. When we found the Hendrys on Instagram a year before our wedding, we were instantly drawn to their moody and editorial style, so we were THRILLED to find they were moving to LA in time to shoot our Millwick wedding. From our first email, they were professional, affable, and quick. They showed up on our wedding day, and even though we’d only met once before, they have a way about them that put us both at ease. It was so affirming to watch them get excited about our little details and our venue. The images they captured of the space/florals/tables are GORGEOUS. My favorite pictures are the ceremony of course, but also the ones of my husband and I moving through the streets of DTLA—they feel so “us.” It’s really fantastic to work with people who seem to truly understand you. We booked the Hendrys for their style, but we were so pleased to meet them and find they are not just artists, but also warm and passionate folks who brought out the best in us on our wedding day. Can’t sing their praises enough.

The Hendrys

Describe your business in 1-3 short sentences.

We are not typical wedding photographers, that is for certain! We go against the usual grain, and that’s exactly how we like it to roll. Normal is boring. Well, for us, at least!

If we could describe our work in four words they would be the following: Fun. Romantic. Creative. Honest.

We’re also suckers for some awesome light.

Why do you want to work with APW couples?

Because we desperately want to work with couples who prefer to shy away from traditions and mainstream, and just be themselves! That’s exactly what we’re all about, and think we could be the perfect match 😀

What is your artistic approach to weddings?

Our approach to shooting is simple; we’ll keep it mostly documentary (you can’t beat a good caught-off-guard expression), capture the action as it unfolds throughout the day, avoid cheesy clichés and let everyone have good old knees up without any interference from us.

We’re constantly pushing ourselves creatively and are incredibly passionate about telling unique stories for each couple, so we aim to go into each wedding with a clear mind and eyes wide open.

What are your non-work-related hobbies?

We watch really random TV shows in our spare time and have been known to drink our body weight in kombucha. We are also, unashamedly, ginormous nerds. Space is where it’s at and we make sure the moon and/or stars strongly feature in as much of our work as possible. Maybe even a UFO if you’re lucky. Stranger things = all the damn heart eyes. Punk Rock and any sort of metal make our collective clocks tick like mad. 80’s movies are a vibe (as the cool kids would say).

Pros

I found The Hendrys through painstaking Instagram research, through the pages of two other photographers I admire. We reached out to Sarah and Darren with our budget and our story, and were thrilled when they agreed to work with us. They are lovely individuals, though we interacted with them very little because they seemed to disappear into the crowds of our loved ones while capturing our day. We received our photos just a week later and are beyond thrilled with what was captured; their style truly allows you to relive your day again and again, including the things you didn't have time to be part of the day of. S+D have a keen eye for human emotion and precious moments, it is obvious in all of their work and that includes ours! We get nothing but compliments on how beautiful our photos are and how remarkable the story they tell is. "Thank you" could never be enough!! We would choose them again and again with no hesitation.
