Describe your business in 1-3 short sentences.
Whether you're having an intimate beachside ceremony, or a fun wedding at the Aquarium, Concertina Press has the perfect invite for your nautical or beach wedding. I create my invitations and stationery with imagery gleaned from antique scientific illustrations, so it's not something you'll see anywhere else. I have helped hundreds of couples create memorable and beautiful wedding invitations and save the dates, and I try to make the ordering process as smooth and easy as possible for you.
Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
One of my favorite clients used APW to plan her wedding, and highly recommended that I join the directory - I love working one-on-one with independent-minded couples to create the unusual, memorable and fun beach wedding invitations that they can't find with mainstream vendors. I always tell people that when planning a wedding you're bound to step on some toes, but really, years down the line you're the one who is going to be remembering it the most, so do what feels right for both of you.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
I used to work in a stationery shop on Cape Cod, helping couples design the perfect wedding invitation - perfect, that is, if you wanted to stick with the designs that came with our software. Marine Biologists from the nearby oceanographic institute would come in to the shop looking for invitations, but I could tell they weren't finding the type of invitations they were hoping for. When the stationery shop closed, I started my own business creating unusual and beautiful beach wedding invitations featuring jellyfish, octopus and coral reefs from antique scientific illustrations. I've since expanded to include other types of nautical imagery like waves and sailboats and I also make thank you notes and greeting cards. I love having a job that doesn't feel like too much like "work".
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
I'm a bookbinder who makes blank journals and my work was recently published in "The Little Book of Book Making" by Charlotte Rivers. I've also made a couple photo tutorials that I see circulating around Pinterest - search for "Easy Tiny Envelopes", and "Mini Accordion Books" if you want to see what my hands look like - I keep the bookbinding separate from the wedding invitation biz, but if you'd like to check it out, my website is http://www.RuthBleakley.com.
What’s your favorite book?
It's really hard for me to pick a favorite book since I am ALWAYS reading - but I think one of my favorite books of all time is World War Z by Max Brooks - it combines two of my interests: post-apocalyptic fiction, and sociology (and despite the title, it isn't even really ABOUT zombies - I even got my mom to read it in her book club, haha). I love Sci-Fi, Fantasy and non-fiction. I've read every book by Anne McCaffery, Mercedes Lackey and Orson Scott Card.
What’s your favorite movie?
I like movies, but honestly only for escapist entertainment value. I'm the person who goes to see every movie in 3D. If that loses me potential customers, too bad, I love 3D movies!
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
I love dance music - here are THREE songs to pump you up: Blaze On by Major Lazer Wave by Crystal Fighters Get Myself Together by Robyn

Ruth did such a fabulous job customizing our Cape Cod wedding save the dates. I had some special requests and she didn’t even hesitate. The final product was beautiful and I am so excited to see continuous messages from guests who fell in love with the final product. I would HIGHLY suggest Ruth to anyone else and know that I’ll use her services in the future! The minute I received the invites in the mail I knew she put not only a lot of thought into the design but also her customer’s experience.
I ordered wedding invitations and thank you notes from Ruth. She made the whole process really easy and enjoyable. She was fun to work with, prompt, and added a personal touch to everything. Not to mention, her designs are cool and unique, and she even uses recycled paper. I would highly recommend Concertina Press, especially to anyone looking for beach or nautical themed stationary.
