Describe your business in 1-3 short sentences.
As a photographer I’m a professional observer, I love a good story. I like to take photographs that focus on the interactions and relationships between people to show the true vibe of the day. I tie the people to the place by taking a step back and incorporating the natural surroundings; this interconnectedness is what makes my photos so natural, real, and effortless. I adore working with good humans and photographing great love in epic locations.
Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
You guys are my favorite. APW couples appreciate photos as art and are trailblazers for having celebrations unique to who they are. They aren’t afraid to let go of tradition when it makes sense for them to do so. I’m probably the antitheses of tradition in most ways, which is why doing these epic unique weddings really feeds my soul. I’m able to produce my most creative work and am so inspired when I see a couple who really, truly, is breaking the mold by being their awesome selves. Free spirits have a marvelous way of proclaiming their love. This speaks volumes to me, and I’m able to give the same in honesty in return through my work.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
I focus on the beautiful things happening between people. There are lots of little moments that you can sense through the energy of the day but don’t necessarily witness firsthand. I love capturing those; those types of candids are my favorite. It’s what I base my entire work around and people really respond to it. On the broader scope, I have a strong inclination to incorporate the natural elements into images and this is especially true for portraits. Love your person, make them laugh. I’ll put you guys in some amazing light and offer simple hands off guidance so your photos are honest, natural, and true. The most important thing is that you can live in the moment and enjoy.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
Travel, blasting music, dance, digging in the vegetable garden, exploring the woods, watching the sky, walking with our cat on a leash (yes really, he’s a rescued baby Bengal mix and all too curious).
What’s your favorite book?
The Bone Man of Benares. You probably don’t know it, but definitely should. I read this book a couple times per year. If you’re a traveler, a romantic, a hippie at heart, or just like good stories – this book is fantastic.
What’s your favorite movie?
The Fifth Element
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
The Salmon Dance – Chemical Brothers I’ll just leave this right here…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDj7DuHVV9E
