What we loved about this venue:
The place is gorgeous! Everywhere you look, there is a photo-op. The tent is spacious and has large windows so even when you’re inside, you don’t feel closed in. Working with Open Aire Affairs was easy and not stressful, and they really did a beautiful job with the whole thing. The grounds of the Estate are kept pristine and there are gardens and open fields, huge old trees and a greenhouse where they grow every kind of flower imaginable. Also, PSB International is a charity organization that works with children in Asia, and a portion of your site fee goes directly to them.
Tips for working successfully with this site:
The biggest tip is Have a Backup Plan. PSB is an outdoor venue with a tent. If the weather is bad, expect to have the outdoor portions of the event relocated to the tent or to the convention center. If it is very hot or very chilly, spring for fans/ACs/Heaters. Your guests will thank you for it. Because PSB is not an all inclusive deal (Open Aire handles rentals but nothing else), sometimes working with all of the different vendors was a bit like wrangling cats. Make sure you have a coordinator or a trusted friend to make sure they all know the wheres and whens of the day and everyone is clued into the schedule so you don’t have to worry about it on the day of.
The price is a $1250 site fee (tax deductible) and $1000 deposit (refunded right after the wedding) for a 5 hour affair. It’s $500 for each extra hour ($325 goes to PSB and $175 goes to Open Aire Affaris). Rentals are $25 per person for basic tables, chairs & tent. For our wedding, 6 hours with 145 guests, the total was $6375.
The drawbacks of this venue were:
PSB is not cheap, but part of the site fee is tax deductible as it is a donation to Pearl S. Buck International. Open Aire Affairs handles all rentals, so you have no choice but to use them. Larry, who is the main contact there, can be difficult to get in touch with sometimes, so you have to be a bit diligent about following up with him. That said, when it came down to it he and his team did a spectacular job setting the venue up and coordinating with our vendors.
