Here is the link to the APW Stock Image Flickr pool. It’s a private group, so please let Keriann know your Flickr handle and she can send you an invite. (And if you don’t have a Flickr account, it’s really easy to make one.) If you are already a member, GO and upload some photos!
- ABOUT OUR EXCLUSIVE, SPONSORS-ONLY FLICKR POOL
- We source all stock images for posts from our private, sponsors-only Flickr pool. APW publishes three posts a day, five days a week, and every photo we use includes a rollover credit that pops up when hovering over the image, as well as a credit and shout out to your Vendor Listing at the end of the post. This adds up to many opportunities for readers and potential clients to click through to your website as they read our daily content.
- WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- Photos where your clients are not easily identifiable.
- We typically use “living” details over stationary details (i.e. a photo of a bride holding a bouquet vs. a staged photo of a bouquet).
- We especially love photos that we can pair with some of the more popular themes featured on APW, like marriage, finances, families, ceremonies, as well as LGBTQ weddings and marriages.
- For more ideas on what kinds of images we tend to use, feel free to browse the current pool and/or any of our recent content.
- HOW TO GET FEATURED MORE OFTEN
- Upload a lot of photos and do so often. Since the pool is a constantly refreshed source of content, we usually start looking at the top of the pile.
- Vertically oriented photos with a lot of white space are likely to be used on our more Pinterest-friendly posts, which tend to be huge traffic drivers. If you have those in your arsenal, please upload them.
- TAG, TAG, TAG! Sometimes we find photos by searching for themes like, “Dancing” or “LGBTQ” or “Babies” or “Engagement.” So if you’re uploading photos within a particular theme, tagging them is an easy way to make sure they float to the top of the pile.
As many of you know, we love featuring our sponsor’s work on the APW Instagram feed—@APracticalWedding—and readers love seeing it there. Here’s how to get your work featured:
- The New Way
We’ll now be sourcing photos from our sponsors-only Flickr Pool. So in addition to uploading stock images (more on that below), feel free to also upload your best work and favorite images to Flickr to be featured on IG. - The Usual Way
Tag @APracticalWedding and hashtag #APWwedding as you shoot awesome weddings or post other relevant photos of your work (rings, stationary, decor, etc).
TIP: You’ll want to tag AND hashtag as @ replies can get lost in the shuffle of likes and comments, but hashtags are forever. Following and interacting with us is the best way for us to find you—we try to follow all of our sponsors, and love re-posting, crediting, and promoting the photographers and artists within our feed.
To submit real weddings: Email STEPHANIE with a set of photos (the gallery you’ve set up for the couple, a blog post, or a dropbox link, etc.) so we can review the prospective wedding. We’ll respond with a yes or no and a link to the proper form, which you can pass along to your couples to fill out.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR:
We’re always looking for visually (or otherwise) interesting weddings. So please don’t hold back sending us any and all weddings you particularly love.
If you’re not sure whether a wedding is a good fit for APW, we generally suggest the “one photo” rule. Which is to say, can you tell exactly what the couple (and the wedding) was about, and what made them unique, from just looking at one photo? Since we don’t post a lot of detail shots in our real weddings, we’re usually looking for the kind of weddings where the style and personality of the couple comes through instantly. (And don’t worry if it’s not the most “practical” seeming wedding in the world. We have featured $2,000, $60,000 weddings, and everything in between. If everyone is being authentic to themselves without going into crushing debt and making everyone around them cry, then it’s on brand for APW. Send us your super cool weddings and your super practical ones.)
That said, at the moment we’re keeping a particular eye out for weddings in New York, Chicago, Washington, Houston, London and Australia—all strong but underrepresented markets for APW. And as always, we welcome and encourage LGBTQ weddings and weddings of people of color. So if you have weddings that fit into any of those rubrics, send them in yesterday!
PLEASE NOTE: Although we welcome sponsors to submit weddings, we do require that the words ultimately come from the couple themselves. But you can assure your clients we don’t require a novel or prize-winning essay skills. You can check out and share the various submissions forms here.
TERMS: By submitting photos by any of the above means you are agreeing to our terms of use apracticalwedding.com/terms, and agreeing that you have the rights from your clients to use their images. You also acknowledge that the submitted photos may be published on apracticalwedding.com and APW’s social media channels as “user content.”
