Are you getting married in 2020? Then you might be thinking about the once old fashioned seeming wedding announcements. (Those are announcements sent after your wedding to announce your marriage, unlike invitations which are sent before your wedding.) These used to be sent out in the case of elopements or small weddings… and now, that’s pretty much every wedding. So if you’re asking yourself how to let your nearest and dearest know all about your newlywed status, beyond just a Facebook post. Well, we have the answer: wedding announcements, that’s how.
Traditionally speaking, wedding announcements are sent to folx that weren’t invited to the wedding that you still want to share your happy news with. But it’s 2020 so those “rules” don’t apply here. Your guest list might have been drastically downsized, and you may now have some guests tuning in via Zoom for your nuptials. Or you may have kept it small and eloped, but now want to share the news.
At the end of the day, your community wants to celebrate you, and wedding announcements are the perfect keepsake if your guests can’t make it IRL.
Deliver Your Wedding Announcements In Style
In our parents and grandparents day, wedding announcements were often made in the local paper. In fact, I have clippings of my parents wedding announcements (though weirdly, the photo only included my mom in her wedding dress… go figure). But these days, chances are good you’re not going to snap up a coveted spot in the Vows section of The NYT. But it’s still nice to have something that can land in a scrap book years later. And if, like me, you like the formality of putting things on paper, you can go with wedding announcements sent through the mail. You can match the design with your original invites to keep up with the theme, or go rogue. (It’s 2020, rules no longer apply.) While you might want to include a photo to show people how it all went down, that is absolutely not necessary. If you’re going with just text, you might want to look at letterpress or more design forward announcements.
