Q: I am at a planning impasse that I didn’t see coming: I can’t figure out the best way to honor men in my wedding planning and our upcoming ceremony. Specifically, I am trying to figure out how to make room for my brothers. I am women-for-women all the way, but in the sex-segregated world of weddings, it feels… impossible. If they were sisters, then I would just make them bridesmaids, and they could and would participate in bridal showers and bachelorette parties and go dress shopping and view venues with me. But as brothers… it’s harder.
Another obvious answer is to have them give toasts or be in the bridal party. And sure, I could make them bridesmen, but for my brothers, asking them to dress nicely, be on display, and make a speech is more akin to punishment than high honor. Google says that I should ask them to be ushers, but the only weddings that I know of that had ushers were on TV!
I would love suggestions, because I love my brothers, and I want to take advantage of this opportunity to show them a bit of that love.
how did you honor your brothers (or other males) at Your wedding? what suggestions do you think could work?
