Hey APW,
Yesterday was Meg’s birthday, which means that per staff tradition, we took her out for a leisurely afternoon of lunching at Tartine Manufactory (OMG you guys so good. I love bread) and shopping. The weather was lovely and Bay Area traffic even cooperated for the afternoon. If this is how the rest of 2019 is going to go, 🤞 sign me up. And not to bury the lede, but it was also Mueller Report Day, so we spent the other half of our afternoon ferociously listening to CNN, eagerly awaiting new commentary on the 448 pages of discovery. And since all of that came after BeyoncĂ© released Homecoming on Netflix, it was, all in all, a good week here at APW HQ.
We also welcomed a new team member, Dana, who is taking over for our Managing Editor, Kate, while she is on maternity leave. Dana has been with APW behind the scenes in some capacity for years, and we’re psyched to bring her on in a more official role. We’re also psyched because she’s in San Francisco, which means our birthday lunch crew just increased by 25%.
And if you’re looking for something else to entertain you this weekend (as if BeyoncĂ© and our train wreck of a White House weren’t enough), my good friend and occasional APW guest author just launched the second season of her cooking podcast (hosted by former Chez Panisse chef Cal Peternell) on Tuesday and her first guest is none other than RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Bob The Drag Queen. I’m super impressed with the work she’s done on this show (and also her new project, a female-focused audio erotica project called Dipsea) so I’m just going to proud auntie over here while I can.
And with that, it’s your Happy Hour. Get it while the getting’s good.
Cheers,
Maddie
P.S. Thank you to everyone who filled out our survey last week. We’ve been compiling your feedback and will have updates on new projects at APW in upcoming Happy Hours! In the meantime, our crew is hard at work on a bunch of boring, but necessary technical fixes to the website, so thank you for giving us a little space (and dealing with us producing slightly less content) so we can ensure APW’s longevity and health.
