If there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s that I will almost certainly fail at all DIY things I attempt. This includes, but isn’t limited to, hairstyles that I find on Pinterest and think look super easy. Luckily, today’s hair tutorial isn’t one of those—this bun crown is actually as easy at it looks. I am super into all things soft and bohemian: clothing, hairstyles, music, you name it. So it should come as no surprise that I positively squealed with delight when this boho bun crown tutorial from Kristi Yarcho and Chicago-based stylist AJ Schulz showed up—especially since a) it’s wildly easy, and b) can be done on hair that’s long, short, or in between.
This crown is basically like a flower crown, but without anything messy and only using what’s already on your head. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to braid, because you won’t have to. When I say this is easy, I mean it—I take the word “easy” when it applies to hairstyles I can successfully attempt quite seriously. To knock this one out you’ll just need a few bobby pins and a little time. #Lazygirl, approved!
From zero to flower child in under 30 minutes
1. Start with: your hair. It doesn’t matter if it’s clean or dirty, wavy or straight, or whatever… just make sure it’s dry.
2. Pull out a section from the top of your head, just behind your part line.
3–4. Twist the first section and then wind it down creating a small bun—try not to wrap the bun too tightly here. Pin in place.
5–6. Continue twisting and pinning the buns in a crown formation down toward the ear and back.
7. Repeat on the other side.
8. Complete the crown by filling in the gap at the back of the head. Twist and pin.
9–11. Operation Boho Babe complete. Get ready for ALL the compliments!
