How Do I Tell My Guests They’re No Longer Invited To My Wedding?

We decided to downsize in the midst of COVID-19

Q: Hi APW,

Wondering if you can help with this one. I’ve seen a bunch of “change the date” announcements but am wondering if you have any tips on how to let family and friends know that you’ve decided to downsize? We haven’t sent save the dates or anything yet, but have decided to just have an intimate 30 person celebration with immediate family and close friends. We’re trying to figure out a graceful way to communicate plans without hurting feelings.  FYI—we are located in NY and large gatherings likely won’t be a thing for a while so we’re rolling with the punches. Help!

How would you let your original guests know that you had to downsize? Is there a way to communicate changes to guests without hurting feelings or do you just have to hope they understand how you came to your decision?
