Is It Better to Rent or Buy Place Settings for a Secluded Wedding?

How do we clean up if there's no running water?

Place Settings

Hello APW,

I have a bit of a dilemma about two and a half months from my wedding. I still don’t know what I am serving my guests dinner on. You see, I am having a DIY wedding at a flower preserve and although they have electric hookups at the venue, there is no running water. So I can’t wash or rinse plates, which I suppose takes renting plates out of the equation. So a question for you: what should I serve dinner on? Should I choose a more natural bamboo or palm leaf setting, a china-like plastic setting, or can I figure out some creative way to rinse rentals so I don’t get killed with washing fees? My wedding is more vintagey than rustic, with lace and lots of gold and flowers.

APW Hivemind, it’s your time for your knowledge of place settings to shine. Did all your barn weddings have running water? Have you done research on compostable plates? What’s pretty, practical, and not terrible for the environment?
