Other Cool Stuff We Should Know About

The wedding was held at the Juan’s aunt’s beautiful home in Gilbert, Arizona. The bridesmaids were asked to choose their own floor length gowns. They ranged from H&M, BHLDN and Windsor Fashions. Our groomsmen helped us build our graffiti wall guestbook, and another groomsman designed our K+J graffiti logo on it. Another groomsman made a special Caribbean drink called Sorrel, a throwback to when he invited us to New York with him and had Caribbean food in Brooklyn and where we got engaged. Bouquets and boutonnières made by my Aunt Sherry, which turned out so amazing. Juan’s cousin Brandon performed our wedding music as well as our First Dance song, “Stay With You” by John Legend.

We are major fans of the TV show Friends, hence the “He’s Her Lobster” cake topper. My brother Chris officiated the wedding ceremony, and surprised us with a “Unity Donut” (groom’s FAVORITE dessert) in lieu of a unity candle. Juan gave all his groomsmen all Arizona Cardinals socks as a gift, and wrapped them up “D!ick in a Box” style, with a hole in the box. Hence the hilarious “D!ick in a Box” surprise performance from the groomsmen.

We did a Soul Train style grand intro for reception and chose individual songs for each bridal party member and shared fun facts about each person. We surprised our guests with late-night pizza. The dessert table was lovingly designed by my best friend/bridesmaid who created the wood branch chandelier all by herself and hung donuts and cookies off of it. We ended our night with a sky lantern release, accompanied by our final song of the night, “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson. Our two year old son LJ was the Best Man.

Favorite Thing About The Wedding

Every aspect of our wedding (setup, decor, coordinating, etc.) included help from a family member or good friend, which made it a million times more special. Our loved ones were so invested in making our day unique and flawless. The list is endless. We truly felt the love in all the weeks leading up to our wedding. Oh and our sky lantern release accompanied by “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson at the end of the night? Magical.
