Where we allocated the most funds:
The photos and the tent rental. These are memories you’ll have forever, so we decided it was best to invest in the photography. We opted for a tent because we didn’t know if our day was going to be rained out or not. It had rained the entire week leading up to the big day, but we lucked out with sunshine on our wedding day.
Where we allocated the least funds:
For us, it was the food. Our family decided to make the food themselves, which helped us save money. We had a barbecue with salads, pasta, and beef brisket, and a family friend made the cake.
What was totally worth it:
The photos! Ellen and Carl of The Light + Color were so personable and fun. They did a great job, and we have wonderful memories captured by them that we get to keep forever.
What was totally not worth it:
The flowers. We spent so much on flowers and didn’t realize we got too many until they were delivered. They looked beautiful, but I think we could have scaled it down and still kept to our vision.
A few things that helped us along the way:
Family! They helped so much and really made the whole DIY process less stressful.
My best practical advice for my planning self:
Let others help! They are more than happy to do it.
Favorite thing about the wedding:
The dancing and fireworks. We danced late into the night. It was so much fun!
