You’re looking for winter wedding dresses, but the wedding industry can’t get its head out of the springtime. It’s all pastels and big florals and nearly nothing dresses forever. And, as much as I love peonies and roses and strapless dresses and parasols to block out the sun, winter’s a-coming, people! And with it, a chance for me to let my penchant for gorgeous, chillAF (see what I did there?) winter wedding dresses and jumpsuits out of storage.
Full disclosure: I may have rewatched Frozen once or twice (or a million) times this past week, because if there’s one thing that movie has gifted us (other than a sisterly love story that gets me every damn time, and a song that is actually scientifically impossible for seven-year-olds to resist singing without end), it’s winter wedding dresses #goals. I mean, dramatic capes fit for a snow queen? Frosty sparkles? Whitewashed shades of blue that are icy as all hell? Way cool.
What also really gets me singing winter’s praises are luxe textures that conjure up cold-weather, holiday vibes, including lush velvets, sleek satins, intricate embellishments, and bold metallics. Toss in some spindly, winter-wood-esque foliage motifs and you’ve got yourself a wedding that’s one with the wind and snow, as Elsa would say. We’re talking going even beyond just long sleeves, although in a sea of strapless bustiers and spaghetti straps, long-sleeved winter wedding dresses can stir up some serious drama. (The good kind! I promise!) That’s especially true when you’re rocking statement balloon sleeves, flowing wide lace sleeves, or vintage bishop sleeves that would be just as at home in some frosty, Scandinavian village as it would your wedding altar.
Now, all you need is a reindeer ring bearer.
