Other Cool Stuff We Should Know About

Our ceremony took place on a mountain in Topanga State Park, Los Angeles. It was a magical spot to us—its beauty played a big part in the ritual we had devised. In order to get there you had to follow a narrow trail over along a mountain ridge towards the peak.

With us was a small number of family members and close friends who had all flown in from Europe. They neither knew the exact location nor the details of the ritual, so it was all a big surprise to them. Only our officiant, who is a good friend, was in the know—we had created the entire ceremony with her.

On our day, we got ready separately at home and in a hotel. We had a bus take the guests along with the groom and officiant to the park and drop them off about a mile from the spot. The group hiked up the trail into the park. At a point overlooking LA and the scenery, the groom sent everyone ahead to the peak and stayed behind to wait for the bride. I had by now arrived at the park entrance and was walking up by myself—well, accompanied by our awesome photographer Michelle—until I got to the overlook where my groom was waiting by himself. We saw each other for the first time in our full wedding gear up there, overlooking the city, the mountains, and the ocean. We then followed the path up the mountain, with our guests watching us climb up to the peak.

We had the ceremony right up there, while the sun set over the hills and the Pacific.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE WEDDING

It was exactly the way we wanted, without compromises—monumental, emotional and meaningful.
