Hey APW,
Well, there you are. And here I am. We’re all just here. The World keeps spinning…and falling apart under our feet. We’re still sheltering in place, sort of. But also trying to figure out how to live out in the community again, kind of. We’re trying to excel at work from our dining room tables, and teaching our children on our couches (I see you, parents). California and the West are still burning. The Southeast is dealing with the effects of (double?!) hurricanes. The fight for basic civil rights for black and brown lives continues. (We wrote a post back in June on things we can all do to help. If each of us made one phone call today, it would make a huge impact.) And Jewish folx and spaces are targets once again. It’s election season, and that’s it’s own kind of horror. (If you do nothing else today, because 2020, please confirm that you’re registered to vote!)
It feels like we’re all just collectively left wondering… Will things get way worse before they get better? Will there be a vaccine that works in the next year? Will 2020 ever end?
Or is that just me?
Doubt it.
So, look. I’m 100% here for venting, crying, collectively acknowledging our trauma, and finding community and connection. So, if that’s what you need, here is your open thread. But, I’m also on Team “F**king Hooray.” (If you don’t listen to My Favorite Murder, that might sound confusing. The ladies on that podcast wrap up every episode with something positive, a small win, and they call it their “f**king hooray”.) We all need a little joy, a little light, a little hooray. Let’s share those here.
I’ll go first. I’m going to paint my bedroom this weekend. We’re renters and have been living in a baby blue bedroom for a year and a half, and it’s just not working for me. My super sweet landlords gave the go-ahead, so we’re going to do it. Bye, bye baby blue. (See… small wins!)
