APW Happy Hour

Newlywed life and Delta worries

Hey APW,

Happy Friday.

Things have been, ahem, sort of wild around here. I got married almost 6 weeks ago (!!!), and it feels like life hasn’t slowed down for a moment. (I can’t wait to tell you all about our amazing wedding, but in the meantime, take a look at this sneak peek we got from our amazing photographer Melissa Habegger.) We came home from our wedding weekend, went back to work, then headed off on a quick honeymoon to Mexico. When we came home from that, it was my step-son’s birthday, so we did all the birthday running around, which was fun but tiring.

And now, less than six weeks into our marriage, we are already knee-deep in our first ‘in sickness and in health’ moment. My wife (ooh, so fun to say), just had major surgery on Wednesday and is laying next to me napping, as I write this. It’s been almost 48 hours of refilling Gatorade cups, bringing her cold ice packs, moving the TV from the living room to the bedroom (and back again), and administering the meds so she can rest. She’s been a champ about the pain, and a good patient—which, in newlywed world, feels like a win.

Speaking of health stuff… Sacramento, where we live, just reinstated a mask mandate inside. I mean, I feel like I knew this was coming, but also… here we go again. I feel worried about how the Delta variant is going to affect life, weddings, and all the other things we’ve all been looking forward to for the rest of 2021. Ugh.

How are you all holding up? Can you believe it’s the end of July already? It’s your Happy Hour, get to it.

xo,
Alyssa
