Corey Torpie Won’t Make You Look Perfect—She’ll Make You Look Real

She's based in Queens but will shoot anywhere

Here’s the thing about Queens-based Corey Torpie Photography: There’s no one else who shoots like her, period. There also aren’t many people like Corey—people who prioritize, well, other people. Beyond her wild photo skills, Corey Torpie is also a genuinely cool person, and she offers one free wedding a year to couples who meet her criteria (details below)! Free weddings aside, her rates begin at $4,095 for 8 hours of coverage and a free engagement session, and trust: every one of those pennies is worth it for what she gives you. (Plus she offers special rates for elopements and weekday weddings.)

For Corey Torpie, it’s the people at a wedding that hold her attention. She’s interested in the awesome celebration that is your wedding day, not capturing an Internet-perfect photo shoot. At the end of the day, your wedding photos will reflect how your wedding really went down—with all of the chaos, love, and perfection that goes along with that.

Do you remember that free wedding I mentioned? Corey, being the Queen of Cool, actually shoots one wedding completely for free each year. Here’s how it works:

To be eligible, one person in the couple (or both) should work in a position that positively impacts their community (e.g., teacher, nonprofit, etc.). This project is meant to bring high-quality wedding photography to couples with tight budgets who give back to their communities. Qualifying weddings should be creative with their budgets, and preference is given to small weddings and culturally traditional weddings with budgets under $10k. The best way to inquire about the next free wedding opportunity is to email Corey (hello@coreytorpie.com) with “One Free Wedding” as the subject.

Corey Torpie loves shooting in New York (because obviously), but also adores getting the chance to travel the world as a destination photographer:

In July I got to photograph in the California Redwoods and on a farm outside Geneva, Switzerland. I’m really looking forward to a camp wedding this fall in Vermont. Being present at a couple’s wedding is such a huge honor. My favorite part of what I do is building a relationship with my couples before the wedding day. Photographing a wedding is a true collaborative process between myself and my couples, with trust as a foundation.

Corey is a marvel. She’s everything you want in a wedding photographer: knowledgeable, friendly, engaged, and above all, focused on you. My husband and I hired Corey while we were living half a world away in Australia, and she was one of the most accommodating and helpful people we experienced during our year-long wedding planning adventure. She fielded any and all questions we had, and made sure our day would be tailor-made to our specs.

On the day, Corey captured every moment possible in unique and beautiful ways. Looking back at a little video one of our friends made on his phone, it was unreal to see Corey right up next to my husband and me during the ceremony; we were completely oblivious to it. Corey knows how to capture perfect moments without being part of the moment. She has an aesthetic that we searched long and wide for before finding her incredible portfolio. Corey even drove us to our venue when we realized we hadn’t booked a car from our hotel. You can throw just about anything her way, and she’ll handle it like the obvious pro she is. She takes the time and care required to truly make your wedding day the most special of occasions.

Again, in case you’re so dazzled that you’ve forgotten: rates begin at $4,095, and Corey Torpie is happy to shoot in NYC, Switzerland, and anywhere else on the planet.
