Sum-up of the wedding vibe: No stressors allowed—only pure, wild beauty.

Actual budget: $3,000

LOCATION: Tjornuvik Beach, Faroe Islands
Where we allocated the most funds:
Photography and our wedding dinner, which was at Koks, the only restaurant in the whole country with a Michelin star. The food was amazing and the restaurant made a vegetarian tasting menu just for us, which was greatly appreciated.
Where we allocated the least funds:
My wedding dress, which was considerably cheaper than my partner’s custom suit.
What was totally worth it:
Everything! There was nothing we regret doing or buying. We cut down on most traditional wedding costs by having an elopement, so we spent nothing on invitations, venue, makeup and hair, wedding party, and similar. I am particularly happy we got such beautiful photos from our amazing photographer, who is also a fine art student.
What was totally not worth it:
Nothing we regret. By doing exactly what we wanted, how we wanted it, there were zero regrets at the end of the day.
A few things that helped us along the way:
Supportive families who didn’t mind at all that we wanted to elope and actually generously supported us even if we didn’t ask them to. Also, having the great luck of having a friend who is also an amazing photographer and that was fun to have around and share our trip with. In general, a loving, wonderful support system and totally non-traditional parents.
My best practical advice for my planning self:
Do what you want to do, everything will fall together beautifully.
Favorite thing about the wedding:
Having our private ceremony in the most beautiful place I have ever seen, on the black sands of the North Atlantic Ocean, with mountains behind us and waves in front of us.
