Why New York’s La Vie En Rose Events Is the Best Kind of Yes (Wo)Man

A wedding a planner who doesn't believe in saying no? Yeah, that's what you want in your corner.

Meg Hotchkiss of La Vie En Rose Events only has one rule: if it’s not illegal or horribly immoral, it’s on. Which means that when she’s your wedding planner, you’re not going to hear the word “no” often. And let’s be real, between juggling the opinions of your friends, family, and vendors, you need some of that in your corner. While Meg has been helping APWers plan weddings for years, she recently added a bunch of awesome (and affordable) new ways to get access to her expertise, from $25 webinars on wedding planning to free travel anywhere she’s got family to hourly consulting that’s worth way more than the $80 she charges for it.

Heavy on Glitter, Low on Drama

Some wedding planners get into the industry because they planned a party one time and it was super fun. Others, like Meg, are just damn good at organizing events. The life of a wedding planner isn’t all champagne and glitter (though she does admit that they are a factor). Instead, Meg’s days are spent neck-deep in spreadsheets, phone calls, and emails so you get to enjoy the champagne and glitter.

Meg says:

I am aware of the fact that I’m hired to make things easier… I don’t need to be “managed.” I don’t have an office space that couples have to meet at—I go to you (it’s more convenient and less expensive for my couples). I also make myself available to my couples. For instance, even couples who book me for Week-of Coordination have access to me via unlimited emails from the time of booking. There are a lot of planners who don’t offer that and are only willing to talk to their clients when their package starts.

Oh, and if champagne and glitter aren’t your thing, that’s cool too. You know why? Because it’s YOUR wedding, and it’s all about what you and your partner want to make of it. So whether it’s champagne and glitter, bourbon and burlap, earl grey and moss, absinthe and leather, or whatever, I’m excited to make it happen for you and yours to enjoy!

And because she’s a true APWer, La Vie En Rose doesn’t work with only one style of wedding or “type” of couple—her business thrives on diversity. Meg told us:

My couples do not all look alike, and their weddings run the gamut of styles from elopements to blowout bashes, from rustic to swanky—I love all different weddings.

No Cookie Cutters Here

To spread the love to as many couples as possible, La Vie En Rose offers a spectrum of planning packages including:

  • Hourly consulting: $80 per hour for video or $100 per hour for in-person consulting, with a minimum of three hours
  • Day-of styling: Starts at $500
  • Week-of coordination: Starts at $2000 (and includes unlimited emails from the minute you book, which most planners never do!)
  • Partial or full wedding planning ($4400 and up)

If you’re getting married between December 2015 and February 2016, you can book La Vie En Rose Events for week-of coordination for just $1500. Plus, all APW couples receive a standing 10% off all planning and coordination packages!

Meg says:

I keep it real! I don’t push my couples into doing things that they don’t want or need. I try my best to cut their costs rather than many planners who have a “spend it all” mentality. I don’t offer cookie-cutter packages; I work with couples from day one to find their comfort zone.

If you don’t live in NYC, you can still hire LVR Events for your wedding. For the past few years Meg’s been getting her toes wet in the world of destination weddings, and she works super hard to keep her travel expenses reasonable and relative to your day—plus she won’t charge lodging if you’re getting married in a city where she has friends and family (psst: that list is pretty long). La Vie En Rose also offers hourly consulting, which can be done on an in-person or video basis (starting at $80 for video calls), making it perfect for couples who live across the country or world or who can’t afford the real in-the-flesh deal.

The truth is, not everyone can afford to hire a wedding planner or even a coordinator. But that doesn’t mean everyone can’t benefit from the info that planners and coordinators have stored up in their heads. Which is why Meg (and frankly, us too) is super excited to begin offering online wedding planning workshops this fall for just $25 a session. The hour-long webinars include a Q&A with Meg and cover everything from getting started and booking vendors to planning a ceremony and making sure your guests are having fun (see the full list of class topics right here).
