Recently, Michael and I packed our bags to head out for a weeklong trip to Maine. As I agonized over how many sweaters to bring for fifty-five degree weather with a chance of rain, he turned to me and asked, “Two pairs of pants ought to cut it, right?” Which is to say, in my everyday life, I’m married to the kind of person who thinks fashion is a Hanes tagless t-shirt. Because, you know, fancy. But when it comes time to get dressed up, he transforms a la Steve Urkel/Stefan Urquelle–style into an entirely different human. I’m talking pocket square with matching watch, and a very specific shade of oxblood dress boots we had to search an entire day to find. Which is why I get so frustrated when the wedding industry treats men and masculine-of-center folks as an afterthought whose only job is to complement a bride’s outfit. And it’s why I am so here for companies that make stylish wedding-day attire for the suit-and-tie wearers in our lives.
Near the very top of that list is The Tie Bar. I’ve been ogling their modern, stylish ties and accessories for years (you can see past favorites in our roundups here, here, and here.) And their collaboration with Jesse Tyler Ferguson and the Tie The Knot Foundation has some of coolest bow ties around. (Don’t tell me I don’t need these cheetah print bow ties in my life, Michael be damned.) And as a bonus, $20 of every $25 purchase or $30 of every $35 purchase from the collaboration is donated to advocate for LGBTQ equality worldwide. And these extra cool styles by Dwyane Wade are also none too shabby. Plus they’ve enlisted BHLDN and Show Me Your Mumu for all your wedding tie needs (more on that below).
So, because you don’t have time to sort through The Tie Bar‘s zillion cool ties, below are forty-five of our favorite picks with applause-worthy designs that buck boring neckwear conventions (or shop them all on The Tie Bar site.) Because tie-wearing folks deserve to look just as cool as dress-wearing ones.
Cool Collabs
You guys, The Tie Bar website is so well designed, it’s like they created it knowing what an actual pain wedding planning can be. You can not only shop by the standard colors; you can actually shop by your specific bridesmaid dresses’ brand’s specific colors. Matchy-matchy dreams do come true. And so do perfectly mismatched ones, because The Tie Bar’s recent collaborations with some of our favorite bridesmaid dress brands, namely BHLDN and Show Me Your Mumu, really take it to the next level.
